Pacific Steel Group is a division of Fletcher Building, and New Zealand’s only manufacturer of Wire Rod, Reinforcing Bar and Coil products.
We are the country’s largest metal recycler. Every year with our joint venture partner, Sims Pacific Metals, we convert around 300,000 tonnes of scrap metal, including old car bodies, into quality steel products. The group comprises of three businesses and a 50/50 joint venture with Sims Pacific Metals:
- Pacific Steel
- Pacific Wire
- Fletcher Pacific Fiji
- Sims Pacific Metals – 50/50 joint venture
Pacific Steel Group plays a major role in producing reinforcing steel for the construction market. With 85 per cent market share in New Zealand our customers include steel merchants (43 per cent) and steel processors (57 per cent).
Seismic® reinforcing bar, made by Pacific Steel, is made specifically to meet New Zealand’s unique seismic conditions and is found in commercial, industrial, infrastructure and residential buildings. Pacific Wire produces all the fencing wire made in New Zealand for New Zealand farms and lifestyle blocks. All wire manufactured by Pacific Wire carries the Wiremark quality mark so farmers can easily identify New Zealand made quality.
Our safety practices, like those of all steel group companies, are driven by an HS&E management system called Smart Site. This includes process that cover not only how sites should behave and what they practise, but also an annual audit of each site which measures each site according to the five levels of the Smart Site system.
Pacific Steel Group also belongs to the ACC Partnership programme as do all Fletcher Building companies.
